August / September

Yesterday was Earlswell Riding Club's 4th Annual One Day Event and despite the miserable weather it was a huge success!

It must be said yet again though, not without the enormous efforts of many club members who put so much time and effort in not only yesterday but in the days and weeks coming up to it.

Thanks also to the many friends and family of members who came along yesterday to fence judge, time, score even feed all the competitors (thanks Mick & Co.) But without all these people we cannot run an event.

On that I did try and send a thank you message to all of these people last night but as I didn't have contact numbers for them all please pass the message on!!!

THANK YOU

Finally thanks also to the Duggan family for letting us use their fantastic facility yet again this year. They not only provided the venue but where there all the days before building jumps, flagging course even painting jumps and still came along on the day to help out. THANK YOU!

Back to results though we not only managed to host the event but we even scooped a few of the prizes too!

A huge congratulations, to the Earlswell Show Jumping team who did us proud at the National Festival taking 5th place!!! There was a slight change to the line up with the 4 competitors on the day being Niamh Grainger, Sarah Beasley, Barbara Maher and John Cantillon.

Well done also to Susan O’Regan who took 1st place and Aine Griffin who took 5th place in the Advanced Primary competition at Ballyhale ODE last Sunday.

May Update

Our members have been extremely busy travelling to Clonshire Ode where in the Intermediate competition Ana Maria Hughes took 4th place and in the Advanced Primary Susan O’Regan took 1st with Zanka.

We then spent a delightful evening in Tony and Pat Lewis, where even the weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of the large number that attended.

Barbara Maher finished 2nd in the intermediate competition and we had a great result in Advanced Primary with Fionna O’Regan 2nd, Brian O’Dwyer 3rd, Susan O’Regan 3rd and Mags O’Shea 5th. Well done to all.

Next our show jumping team headed off to Highland lodge to represent Earlswell in the team qualifier where Sarah Beasley, Johanna Maher, Niamh Grainger & Barbara Maher more then did us proud by taking 2nd place. This means the team now jump off for a place in the RDS final. The jump off takes place in Stradbally on Saturday 7th June and I would urge anyone who can go along to support to please do so!!!

As if all that wasn’t enough last Friday we headed to Denis & Jo Murphy’s in Castlewhite for a Jump Cross evening. The weather finally worked out for us and a great evening was had by all. Some of us finishing up the social part later then others….A special thank you must be said to Brian and Denis for all the work they put into the course, this was our first event there and huge work went into getting the course up.

Finally 3 of our riders attended a show jumping and dressage training day in Mallow last Sunday, and tell me it was a great day out.

Earl's Well One Day Event

It would seem, from the reaction of those who competed, that this years ODE was a great success. This is primarily due to the hard work of members leading up to the event and on the day itself. A very big thank you is extended to all those who were involved and helped out.

The annual event was well attended with many travelling a great distance. Again we would like to say a special thank you to the Duggan family for facilitating us in this endeavour and for the amount of work that they put into making the course. Their expertise, help and advice proved invaluable to us again this year.

A big thank you is also extended to the Killeady hunt for use of their equipment essential to the operation. The club would also, yet again, like to say a very big thank you to le chef du jour, Mick O'Regan and his assistant Sean for providing such a fantastic BBQ on the day!
